How Do I Keep My Goggles from Fogging?Updated 2 days ago

Foggy goggles are a universal frustration on the mountain. While Glade goggles are designed with double pain lenses, anti-fog coatings, and ventilation systems, how you use your goggles has a huge impact. Check out the science behind fogging in our Lodge post here. Think of it this way: small fog-inducing habits often make the biggest difference. Here’s how to avoid them:

Practical Tips to Prevent Fogging

  • Don’t touch the inside lens. The anti-fog layer is delicate. Wiping it away makes fogging worse long-term. For the best way to clean your lenses check out our video here

  • Keep your goggles on. Taking them off in lift lines or on the chair exposes them to humid air and accelerates fogging. Those vents at the top of your helmet would be smokestacks of steam right to your lens.

  • Avoid snow on the foam. If snow melts into the goggle foam, moisture will sneak inside. A helmet that fits well over your goggles helps prevent this. If you're taking face shots of snow, remember to pause the fun, and shake that snow off.

  • Layer smart. Overheating = more sweat = more fog. Dress so you stay comfortable without baking. Sweating also wears you out faster, so cool down and you can get a few more laps in.

  • Be mindful with face coverings. Buffs and balaclavas can push warm breath up into your goggles. Adjust as needed to redirect airflow. Think about growing a beard?

  • Dry between uses. Let your goggles dry completely inside overnight — not in a wet ski bag or car trunk. Don't be lazy! Be kind to your gear!

  • Clear fog the right way. If your goggles do fog, remove them and let them defog naturally. Avoid wiping the inside lens.

When to Consider a Lens Swap

If you’ve tried everything and your lenses are still fogging, it may be time to replace them. Over time, anti-fog coatings degrade. Swapping worn out lenses can restore your clarity.

Bottom line: Fog happens, but with a few tweaks to your mountain routine, you can keep your lenses clear and your vision dialed.
